JUNE 2008 NEWS LETTER

President's Corner

The June campout at Timber Lakes in Mt. Carroll, Illinois was an exciting time.  Great weather, a great campground, and a great beanbag contest.  The Semitekol and Longs hosted.
Arriving on Thursday were Holecek, Koehne, Long, Olsen, Purcell and Semitekol.
Thursday evening, after eating in there motor homes, the Thursday arrivals spent 90 minutes watching a Jack Nicholsen movie (Bucket List) in the Olsen’s coach.  What a great movie.
Went to a café in downtown Mt. Carroll for breakfast and wandered around for a few hours.
The Hardens and Leeders arrived Friday.  The Vittes stopped by without their coach Friday afternoon and went with us to a downtown Mt. Carroll pizza tavern for dinner.  When we returned, the campground had a wine and cheese tasting party.
The Vittes returned with the Ziglers Saturday morning for a great breakfast served by our hosts.
During the afternoon we had a Cruisin Chariots bean bag elimination tournament to find our representative to the contest between our club and the Holiday Rambler Red Cardinal Rollers Club.  It was a rematch of last years contest.   This year Jack Holecek was able to beat Vern Long (last year’s winner) to become our representative.  Jack’s brother in-law (Russ Diven), who is a Holiday Rambler Red Cardinal Roller member, was elected to be their representative.  So we had brother in-laws competing against each other.  Jack took the early lead but Russ was able to catch up and won the contest by a 21 to 18 score.  Timber Lakes celebrated the occasion by awarding the winner a medal.  A fun time was had by all.
Saturday evening most of us went to the Timber Lakes dinner theater.  The dinner was very good and was followed by an excellent presentation of West Side Story.  Unfortunately, the story can be a downer as the main characters die.  Most of us were pleasantly surprised with the professional way the musical was presented.  The stage has a turntable.

The following was discussed at Timber Lakes -
The Carters application has been approved.  They are the newest Cruisin Chariots member.
Concerning the St. Paul Convention:  If possible, please meet in the holding area at 2:00pm on Friday, July 11th otherwise we will see you on Saturday.  Saturday there is a security meeting at 3:00pm, if you are unable to make that meeting please let me know so I can pick up your paperwork.  I will be sending out a spreadsheet with information on everyone’s travel plans.  If any of the information is incorrect please let me know as soon as possible.
The Shipshewana campout in October will include a typical Amish dinner at $14.95 per person.  This would be in addition to the $10.00 outing fee.  We will need to guarantee 15 people.
The Thornton’s have sold their Lexington home and are moving to Decatur.  Watch for their address and any other changes.
Jack & Kathy’s cottage in Fox Lake, Wisconsin had a little flood problem and their daughter in-law had to have surgery but it seems they are both mended.
The July meeting will be part of the St Paul Convention.  The next regular Cruisin Chariots meeting will be the August 7, 8, 9 and 10 campout in the Springfield area.  Please make your reservation quickly as we need to firm up our commitment to the Double J Campground in Chatham, Illinois.
Thanks for all the work that our June hosts put in making the Timber Lakes Campout a success.
