SEPTEMBER 2008 NEWS LETTER

President's Corner

The Sandwich Fair in Sandwich, Illinois was the location for the September 2008 Cruisin’ Chariots campout.  Members began arriving on Wednesday the 9th and continued through Friday the 11th.  The members that were able to travel to Sandwich were the Addems, Benhart, Harden, Holecek, Koehne Kriz, Leeder, Long, Morris, Olsen, Purcell, Russell, Schlie,  Semitkol, Thornton, Vitte, Zigler.  Ellsworth came Saturday for the day.
Don Russell brought a friend (May) and his sister (Lois), granddaughter, daughter (Deborah) and her family stopped by to take in the fair on Saturday.  The Long’s son and his family and the Benhart’s children also stopped to say hello.
Dale and Pam Rowe joined us for the weekend.  Dale is Darlene Kriz’s son.  He bought their Safari motorhome when Ed and Darlene purchased their new Newmar motorhome at the St. Paul Convention.  Hopefully they will interested in joining the Cruisin Chariots.
Richard and MaryAnn Matkovich arrived on Wednesday.  They had found out about the Cruisin Chariot’s campout through FMCA and had contacted Ron Olsen and Vern Long about camping with us for the weekend.  They also expressed an interest in coming to the October outing.
Weather was the subject of most of the conversations on Thursday and Friday as it rained all of Thursday and threatened Friday morning.  We arrived on Thursday and as I set up in the rain I banged the top of my head on a slide out corner.  A member nurse (Lorraine) promptly responded to the small emergency.  The slide out is just fine.
Thursday afternoon during the rain the Purcell’s invited everyone present into their new motorhome for hors d’oeuvre.  It was a great layout.  The number of persons in their motorhome may be a new record.  We spent most of Thursday afternoon in Purcell’s motorhome which kept us sane.
Thursday evening most went to dinner at the Santa Fe Mexican Restaurant in Sandwich.
On Friday afternoon the three new motorhome owners, Addems, Kriz and Purcell invited everyone to a wine and cheese party.  It was so good that I made it my dinner.
Saturday morning we were treated to “omelets in a pouch”.  Two eggs were dropped into a sandwich bag then green peppers, onions, etc were added and the entire bag was then placed in boiling water and cooked until done.  It was a very good breakfast.
Saturday’s dinner was furnished by Don Russell from Q’s Restaurant in Hillside, Illinois.  All the food was excellent.
Sunday morning was coffee and sweet rolls.  Most left on Sunday but a few members stayed until Monday.
